Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1–2 tsp milk (for the glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and roll it out slightly to smooth creases.
- In a small bowl, combine pumpkin puree, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves. Mix until well combined.
- Spread the pumpkin filling evenly over the center of the puff pastry sheet, leaving about an inch of space around the edges.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the puff pastry into long, 1-inch wide strips.
- Gently twist each strip several times to create a spiral shape.
- Brush the twisted pastry strips with the beaten egg using a pastry brush for a golden finish.
- Place the twisted pastries onto the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced apart.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and crispy.
- While the pastries bake, whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk in a small bowl to create the glaze. Add more milk if needed for a drizzling consistency.
- Remove the pastries from the oven and let them cool slightly. Drizzle the maple glaze over the top of each pastry.
Notes
- For added crunch, add chopped pecans or walnuts to the pumpkin filling.
- Adjust the spices to your preference; you can omit cloves or use less cinnamon and nutmeg.
- For a creamier filling, incorporate some cream cheese into the pumpkin mixture.
- Experiment with different glazes like a simple sugar glaze or caramel sauce.
- If you prefer a sweeter filling, pumpkin pie filling can be used, but it will be sweeter and already spiced.
- These pastries can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking.
- Unbaked twisted pastries can be frozen; bake directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.
- Leftover maple glaze can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
